Beach AND BUSH Adventurer

LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK, SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK, SATEMWA TEA ESTATES AND LAKE MALAWI NATIONAL PARK

This itinerary offers a high-end getaway packed full of adventure combining a true Zambian safari experience, hiking at Mulanje, before cooling off with some kayaking at Lake Malawi – don’t worry there’ll also be some time to relax along the way with sundowners and a beautiful sunset… While this option shows a more luxurious level it is also just an example of what we can offer. We would be happy to tweak this trip to make it the perfect trip for you.

Day 1 - 4: Chongwe River House, Lower zambezi

Our guide will meet you at Lusaka airport before you catch your short 30 minute flight down into the Zambezi Valley. Enjoy spectacular views from the air as you fly over the hills bordering the Zambezi River. On arrival at Royal Airstrip, you will be transported to Chongwe River House, which really is one-of-a-kind. A truly unique private house set within the beautiful wilderness of the Lower Zambezi. In between game drives, you can choose to relax by the pool, have a fresh meal prepared or explore the area with one of the many personalised activities on offer.

Day 4 - 7: NSOLo/ Kakuli/ Luwi/ Mchenja Bush Camp, South Luangwa

From the Royal Airstrip you will catch your flight to Lusaka., where you will be met ahead of your connecting flight to Mfuwe – our gateway to the South Luangwa National Park. On arrival you will be transported to one of the bush camps with an approximate transfer time of 2-4hrs, most of which is a game drive through the national park. Here you will settle into your luxury home in the bush for the next 3 nights on the doorstep of an amazing array of wildlife. Make your choice to either venture out on foot for a renowned walking safari or experience the park on a traditional game drive, either way make sure you enjoy the abundant wildlife, beautiful views and sunsets with a sundowner in hand.

Day 7-8:Game Haven, Blantyre

After a final early breakfast in the bush you will catch your flight from Mfuwe to Lilongwe where you will then be transferred by car to Game Haven lodge, just South from Blantyre (drive time 5h30 approx). This is the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon/evening ahead of an active few days. Walk around the game park and see how many antelope species you can spot or have a swim in the lake. Most of all, relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Day 8-11:Mount Mulanje Clmb, Mulanje

Rise and shine. It’s time to dust off those walking boots and get ready for your 3 night hike up Mulanje. After an energy fuelled breakfast you will be driven to your starting point (about 1 hr from Game Haven) where you will meet your guide and your porters. You will spend the next 3 days walking through the breathtaking scenery of the mountains; whether this be the steep ascent up to Sapitwa* or a climb to another of the many peaks, the views will be spectacular and worth the climb. Be sure to stop off by some of the waterfalls and small swimming lakes along the way for a refreshing dip.

*Please note in rainy season (Dec-Mar), hiking in Mulanje may not be possible – please contact us for more details.

Day 11-12: Huntingdon House, Blantyre

After 3 days of walking it’s time to put your feet up and relax. Huntingdon House offers the perfect tranquil spot for just this with its colonial charm, home comforts and beautiful gardens. Pass your time by simply exploring the expansive gardens of this working estate or test the taste buds by doing some tea tasting. If you’ve still got energy to burn why not head out on a mountain biking trail or guided walk to explore the area a bit more.

Day 12-15: Mumbo Island

After breakfast your guide will transfer you by car to Cape Maclear. Here a boat will take you across to Mumbo Island, a short 40 minute transfer to a secluded paradise where you will be taken into another world. Being recently confirmed as one of the top 50 sustainable camps in Southern Africa, you will get to enjoy true island paradise away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Explore the island by foot or go on a mini adventure kayaking around the rocky coves and watch the sun go down with a drink in hand. Be sure to enjoy a snorkel in the turquoise water among the hundreds of colourful Cichlids.

Day 15: Homeward bound

Unfortunately it’s time to say goodbye to Mumbo hopefully with some special memories of an Zambian and Malawi adventure. You will be transferred by boat to Cape Maclear where you will meet your guide for your final road transfer back to Lilongwe to catch your international flight.
