The Cape Winelands District Municipality is a district municipality located in the Boland region of the Western Cape province of South Africa. In Afrikaans, Boland means “upland” or ” the higher land”. The Boland is generally mountainous, with range after range of beautiful and isolated sandstone peaks reaching towards 2000m but also has broad, fertile valleys that are home to some of the country’s finest vineyards.
Thanks to its dry, mountainous climate, the area is home to more than 300 vineyards and is one of the World’s largest wine producers. Unsurprisingly, the region is a hotbed of first-class restaurants as well.
Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl make up the core of the Winelands but there are many more places to explore.

At Babylonstoren’s Farm Hotel, the overall effect is relaxed yet well-heeled with some of the existing farm buildings transformed into sophisticated guest accommodation. Set adjacent to a 3,5 hectare (8 acres) cultivated fruit and vegetable garden, the hotel is characterised by thick whitewashed walls, elegant gables and hearty fireplaces that emulate an authentic farm stay experience.
