The green season is a fantastic time to go on safari. Not only is the price significantly cheaper, the bush experience is totally different: there is an abundance of young wildlife, fewer vehicles, and incredible bird life.
Beginning at the glorious South Luangwa National Park after a night in Lilongwe, after the bush it is time to visit the beach – Lake Malawi before returning back to the bush this time at Liwonde National Park before finishing the trip on Malawi’s largest uninhabited Island – Domwe.
Upon arrival in Lilongwe, your guide will transfer you to Kumbali Lodge, a beautiful setting on the outskirts of Lilongwe. Here you can relax and unwind and enjoy your evening with a sundowner, or two, before heading to South Luangwa the following day.
At Wildlife Camp, guests can expect a wonderful and authentic African bush experience. Wildlife Camp is known for its down-to-earth style and offers rustic chalets, secluded en-suite tented camps and a bush camp for overnight walking safaris. The restaurant overlooks a drinking-hole, which means you can sometimes share a drink with the local tower of giraffes!
After a final early breakfast in the bush, your Malawian Style guide will transfer you by road to Lake Malawi, where you will spend two nights at Kumbali Lake Retreat. Kumbali Lake Retreat is a new eco-friendly lodge on the beautiful shores of Lake Malawi. Owned and run by the same family who owns Kumbali Country Lodge, the lake retreat comes with the same familiar ‘home away from home’ feel with comfort and nature at the main focus.
The family friendly Mvuu Camp is located right on the banks of the Shire River and caters for the more budget-conscious traveller. An impressive thatched dining and lounge area hosts meals between stunning river cruises and game drives through the park. Expect to see a profusion of hippos, crocodiles and the amazing birdlife of the Liwonde National Park.
Domwe Island Adventure Camp is basic yet exclusive. It lies behind a small beach on the island’s west side. The camp is run on a self-catered basis, with guests making use of the kitchen facilities to prepare their own meals. The kitchen has two full-time staff members and is fully stocked with fridges, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.
Accommodation consists of three fully furnished safari tents and two tent sites, complemented by a dining area with bar and a water sports gazebo.
Unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to Domwe hopefully with some special memories of a Zambian and Malawi adventure. You will be transferred by boat to Cape Maclear where you will meet your guide for your final road transfer back to Lilongwe to catch your international flight.
