NORTHERN EXPLORER

SOUTH LUANGWA NP, VIPHYA PLATEAU, LAKE MALAWI, NYIKA PLATEAU, & NKHOTAKOTA WILDLIFE RESERVE

Experience the wilds of South Luangwa and then explore Northern Malawi in style. This tour takes you on an epic adventure; encompassing some of Malawi’s best destinations and the Zambian bush… We would be happy to tweak this trip to make it the perfect trip for you.

Day 1 - 2: kumbali country lodge, lilongwe

Upon arrival at Lilongwe International Airport, your Malawian Style guide will welcome you and transfer you to Kumbali Country Lodge. Kumbali Lodge is a private lodge, situated on a 650 hectare forest reserve and dairy farm land. Only 10 minutes from the capital city, Lilongwe, along a quiet traffic-free road. The accommodation is stylish, relaxed and informal; it is much more than just another Lilongwe hotel.

Day 2 - 5: kafunta river lodge, south luangwa national park

Here you will spend the next 3 days. Kafunta is a classic Zambian safari lodge where you will find the rest and peace you need after an exciting day of game drives with their highly knowledgeable guides. At Kafunta each of the luxury private chalets and the main lounge/dining area has fantastic views of the game rich flood plain. Kafunta River Lodge is said by many to be one of the best wildlife viewing points in Africa.

Day 5 - 7: luwawa forest lodge, viphya plateau

After breakfast, the journey heading back to Malawi starts, further up to the northern region, where you will be based at Luwawa Forest Lodge. The Lodge is situated in a forest reserve with a combination of pine and indigenous woodland. The estimated time of arrival at the lodge is around lunch time, you will have the afternoon to explore and enjoy the many activities on offer such as biking, hiking, nature trails, rock climbing, abseiling and many more.

Day 7 - 10: chelinda lodge, nyika plateau

Rise and shine! From Luwawa, the journey will continue to Chelinda in Nyika National Park. Chelinda Lodge is set against a pocket of hagenia woodland and overlooking vast tracts of Nyika National Park’s rolling grasslands dotted with large herd of roan, eland and zebra. This forest backdrop to Chelinda Lodge provides perfect shelter for an idyllic escape in the highland wilderness of Malawi. The park offers guests a truly African alpine experience. Overlooking a crystal-clear dam with panoramic views of rolling hills, isolated ridges and open high-altitude grasslands, Chelinda Camp has access to rich pockets of wildlife endemic to this region.

Day 10 - 12: makuzi beach lodge, chintheche

Makuzi beach lodge is situated on the lush northern shores of Lake Malawi. It is one of the Malawi’s only private white sand beaches which provides guest with a superb, secluded retreat and wonderful views across Africa’s third largest freshwater lake. All chalets are en-suite with stunning lake views set in a perfectly manicured garden. Makuzi beach lodge is a perfect location for a romantic getaway or a family holiday.

day 12 - 14: Tongole lodge, nkhotakota

Tongole Wilderness Lodge is an exciting 4* eco-tourism venture set deep within the rugged and breathtakingly beautiful miombo woodland of Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. Tongole has been expertly designed to incorporate the very best of local Malawian culture whilst blending in perfectly with its stunning natural setting. Tongole is the only luxury lodge of its kind in the region, drawing those who seek an exceptional wilderness experience in. It is one of Africa’s – and possibly Malawi’s last – truly unspoilt wildlife areas.

Day 14 - 16: blue zebra lodge, nankoma island

Blue Zebra Lodge is situated in the Lake Malawi National Park on Nankoma Island which forms part of Marelli Island Archipelago. It offers 8 exclusive tented en suite chalets each overlooking the lake with some of crystal clear waters. The chalets are set in an unspoiled environment and guests are surrounded by nature and luxury. Guests are free to chill at the infinity pool, Kayak around the islands or enjoy a game of volleyball as part of the board package. The lodge also offers free use of snorkelling equipment to view the unique colourful fish that inhabit every inch of the coastline.

Day 16: Homeward bound

All the good things must come to an end and sadly today is the day of your departure. Finally from Blue Zebra Lodge on Nankoma Island, you will depart for Lilongwe International Airport for your flight back home.
